Commode chairs – also known as nightstands – are mobile toilet solutions for care rooms, apartments, or hospital rooms. With a hygiene cutout, removable bucket, and sturdy armrests, they enable safe toileting where the distance to the existing toilet is too far, too unsafe, or unreasonable at night. NORDIC focuses in this category on robust XXL models with a weight capacity of up to 300 kg – with HMV listing, CE marking, and a 5-year warranty.
There are three fundamentally different approaches around the toilet. The key difference is whether only support to stand up is needed – or additionally a higher seat position:
Free-standing standing aid
A frame with armrests placed around the toilet without drilling. Leaves the existing WC unchanged – ideal for rented flats.
Toilet support frame
A four-leg frame with a seat and hygiene cut-out placed over the WC. Raises the seat position and provides support – with or without armrests.
Toilet armrest
An armrest mounted or clamped directly to the WC – the compact solution when the seat height is fine and only a grip for support is missing.
Standing up from the toilet is biomechanically demanding: the legs must lift the body weight from a low seated position with nothing in the room to hold on to. As strength declines, after surgery or with joint problems, exactly this becomes a fall risk. A toilet support solves three problems at once:
Free-standing WC standing aid (frame)
A four-leg frame with raised armrests placed around the existing toilet – no drilling, no changes to the plumbing. Armrest height adjustable 66–81 cm. Ideal for rented flats.
Toilet support frame with hygiene seat
Placed over the WC, it raises the seat height to 45–60 cm and offers stable grips or armrests. The standard solution for professional care providers. Rated up to 160 kg.
Toilet armrest (compact)
The space-saving solution when the seat height is fine and only something to hold on to is missing. Rated up to 150 kg.
Bariatric XXL variant
Reinforced steel frame up to 300 kg, with splash guard and width-adjustable seat (55–85 cm) – for demanding heavy-duty care.
All models are height-adjustable (where noted in the table), powder-coated and fitted with non-slip feet. All products are CE-marked Class I medical devices.

What is the difference between a toilet support and a toilet chair?
A toilet support enhances the existing toilet – through additional armrests or a higher support frame. A toilet chair temporarily replaces the WC with a mobile chair with a bucket, set up in the room or next to the bed.
Does a toilet support need drilling?
No – all NORDIC models are free-standing and are placed around or over the WC without screwing anything in. That makes them suitable for rented flats and allows a clean removal when care ends.
Are the models certified medical devices?
Yes. All toilet supports are CE-marked Class I medical devices, manufactured in Europe. Conformity documentation is available to partners for procurement and tenders.
When is a simple armrest enough?
When the seat height of the existing toilet is fine and only a secure hold to stand up is missing. If the seat position is too low, a support frame is the better choice.
Are there solutions for overweight users?
Yes. The COMFORT XXL (1-1297) is rated up to 300 kg and its seat width adjusts steplessly between 55 and 85 cm. Further bariatric aids are in XXL aids.
Can the support frame be combined with any toilet?
Usually yes – the ECONOMY models are designed to be placed over common floor-mounted and wall-hung WCs. If in doubt, compare the dimensions of the existing WC with the internal dimensions of the support frame.
