Gait trainers and walkers with armrests provide secure support where a rollator is no longer sufficient. The user supports a large portion of their body weight via their forearms, moves safely within the frame, and thus regains the security necessary for early mobilization, gait training, and safe transfers. NORDIC has been manufacturing its ALBE series in its own European production facilities for over 30 years – CE certified, Class I, and with a 5-year warranty.
Both aids support walking – but they solve different problems. The key difference is how much body weight the aid takes on:
Rollator
The user holds onto handles with their hands. Suitable for more mobile people who only need balance and a little support – in everyday life, on paths, when shopping.
Walking table with armrests
The user rests their forearms on padded supports. The aid takes on a large part of the body weight – ideal for gait exercises, rehabilitation, early mobilisation and more restricted users.
Rule of thumb: When holding onto the rollator is no longer enough and the user needs support through the arms while standing, the walking table is the right choice.
The type of height adjustment determines the right use. NORDIC offers all three variants – each also as an HR version with a dual-function hand brake:
Manual height adjustment
Ideal when the walking table is assigned to a fixed user and the height is only rarely adjusted. Robust, low-maintenance, economical. Models: ALBE STANDARD, STANDARD HR and RA.
Gas spring (GAS)
Stepless, tool-free adjustment. Optimal for frequent user changes – in gait training, everyday care or the clinic. Models: ALBE GAS, GAS HR and GAS-RA.
Electric height adjustment (EL)
At the touch of a button – makes standing up and transfer on the spot easier. First choice in clinics and care when staff should be relieved and the user actively raised. Models: ALBE-EL, EL HR and EL XXL.
All models are powder-coated CE-marked Class I medical devices with padded, wipeable armrests. The abbreviation HR stands for the dual-function hand brake (drive and parking brake directly on the handle). The choice depends on adjustment type, wheel diameter and user weight:
| Model | Height adjustment | Armrests | Load capacity | Wheels | Highlight |

How does a walking table differ from a rollator?
The walking table takes on a large part of the body weight via forearm supports and provides more stability – ideal for gait exercises and more restricted users. The rollator is aimed at more mobile people in everyday life who only need balance and support.
What does the abbreviation „HR“ stand for?
„HR“ denotes the dual-function hand brake: two castors can be braked in a controlled way (drive brake) and locked securely (parking brake) via a lever on the handle – without bending down. The HR version is available manually (1-2245-HR), with a gas spring (1-2246-HR) and electrically (1-2247-HR).
Which height adjustment is the right one?
Manual for a fixed user, gas spring for frequent changes, electric when standing up and transfer should be actively supported.
Are there walking tables for heavier users?
Yes. The XXL model ALBE EL has a reinforced frame, a load capacity up to 250 kg and electric height adjustment. You’ll find more bariatric solutions among our XXL aids.
Are the walking tables suitable for outdoor use?
The RA models with large 200 mm wheels (ALBE-RA and ALBE GAS-RA) are designed for combined indoor and outdoor use – ideal for rehab routes in the garden or the walk to the mailbox.
Which walking table suits tight spaces?
The ALBE models are compact at around 76 cm frame width and fit through standard doorways; the RA models with large wheels are somewhat wider. For very tight layouts we’re happy to advise on the most manoeuvrable configuration – get in touch.
Are the products CE-certified medical devices?
Yes. All walking tables are CE-marked Class I medical devices (EU MDR 2017/745), manufactured in Europe and designed for professional rehab and care use.
