Three aids are often mixed up in customer consultations – but they solve different problems:

Commode chair (this category)

Mobile chair with hygiene cut-out and removable bucket. It stands in the room, fully replacing the toilet when needed, or is placed over the existing WC.

Support frame with armrests placed over the existing WC – without a bucket. It raises the seat position and gives support when standing up.

Shower chair

With backrest and armrests for showering seated. The folding MOBILE models are listed under shower stools & benches.

Situations

When a commode chair is the right solution

The mobile toilet chair solves situations where the existing toilet cannot be reached, or only with difficulty:

Night-time toilet visits

Fall risk and incontinence when half asleep make the night-time trip to the bathroom dangerous. The chair beside the bed takes over.

Severely limited mobility

When the way to the toilet is too long or too exhausting – after surgery or in geriatric care.

Bariatric care

When the existing toilet does not carry enough load or is too narrow. Our models go up to 300 kg.

Rehab & post-op

Temporary provision during limited mobility – ended as soon as the user can reach the toilet independently again.

The COMFORT series: three versions

All NORDIC commode chairs belong to the COMFORT series. They differ in seat width and load capacity:

1COMFORT XXL – standardThe all-rounder with a fixed seat width and 200 kg load capacity. The standard solution for most bariatric care situations – listed with an HMV number.

2COMFORT XXL wideLike the standard version but with a wider seat – for users who need more space and stay within 200 kg. Also listed with an HMV number.

3COMFORT XXL bariatricReinforced steel frame up to 300 kg with a steplessly adjustable seat width from 55 to 85 cm – the solution for demanding bariatric care.

Purchasing

What buyers should look for

Load capacity

Standard version up to 200 kg, bariatric version up to 300 kg. Plan for the real weight plus a safety margin.

Seat width

For a fixed user weight the standard version is enough. If body size varies or several people use the aid, choose the width-adjustable version.

Type of use

Pure toilet function with bucket, or placed over the existing WC (remove the bucket). Both work with all three models.

Hygiene

Smooth, closed surfaces allow wipe disinfection between uses – essential for clinics and care homes.

HMV listing

Two of the three models are listed in the German assistive-devices register and therefore reimbursable. The full overview is available under aids with HMV number.

Bucket handling

A key criterion in daily care: easy to remove, tightly sealed, easy to clean.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a commode chair and a toilet support?

The commode chair temporarily replaces the toilet with a mobile chair and bucket. A toilet support is placed over the existing WC and only provides support when standing up – without a bucket.

Is a “night chair” the same as a commode chair?

Yes. “Night chair” is the common term in daily care for exactly these products – mobile commode chairs with a bucket, usually placed beside the bed at night.

Can the chair also be used over the WC?

Yes, with all three COMFORT models the bucket is removed and the chair is placed over the existing WC. It then acts like a raised seat with armrests.

Are the models reimbursable?

Two of the three models are listed in the German assistive-devices register (33.40.04.0022 and 33.40.04.0041) and can therefore be prescribed at the expense of the statutory health insurance in Germany. You see your terms in your dealer account.

Which model for which user weight?

Up to about 170 kg real weight: COMFORT XXL standard or wide (200 kg maximum). Above that, or with varying body size: COMFORT XXL bariatric with 300 kg and width adjustment 55–85 cm.
