Gait trainers and walkers with armrests provide secure support where a rollator is no longer sufficient. The user supports a large portion of their body weight via their forearms, moves safely within the frame, and thus regains the security necessary for early mobilization, gait training, and safe transfers. NORDIC has been manufacturing its ALBE series in its own European production facilities for over 30 years – CE certified, Class I, and with a 5-year warranty.
Both aids support walking – but they solve different problems. The decisive difference lies in how much of the body weight the aid takes up:
Rollator
The user holds onto the handles. Suitable for more mobile people who only need balance and some support – in everyday life, on walks, while shopping.
Walker with forearm supports
The user places their forearms on padded supports. The aid takes up a large part of the body weight – ideal for gait exercises, rehabilitation, early mobilization and more severely restricted users.
Rule of thumb: When holding onto the rollator is no longer sufficient and the user needs support via the arms when standing, the walker is the right choice.
The type of height adjustment determines the appropriate use. NORDIC offers all three variants:
Manual height adjustment
Ideal when the walker is assigned to a fixed user and the height is only rarely adjusted. Robust, low-maintenance, economical. Models: ALBE STANDARD, SMALL and RA.
Gas spring (GAS)
Continuous, tool-free adjustment. Optimal for frequent user changes – in gait training, in daily care or in the clinic. Models: ALBE GAS, HR and GAS-RA.
Electric height adjustment (EL)
At the push of a button – facilitates standing up and on-the-spot transfers. The first choice in clinics and care facilities when staff are to be relieved and the user is to be actively raised. Model: ALBE EL XXL.
All seven models are anthracite powder-coated, Class I medical devices and equipped with padded, wipeable forearm supports. The choice depends on the type of adjustment, wheel diameter and user weight:

What is the difference between a walker and a rollator?
The walker takes a large part of the body weight via forearm supports and provides more stability – ideal for gait exercises and more severely restricted users. The rollator is aimed at more mobile people in everyday life who only need balance and support.
Which height adjustment is the right one?
Manual for a fixed user, gas spring for frequent changes, electric when standing up and transfers are to be actively supported.
Are there walkers for heavyweight users?
Yes. The XXL model ALBE EL has a reinforced frame and a load capacity of up to 250 kg, and is electrically height-adjustable. More bariatric solutions can be found under XXL aids.
Are the walkers suitable for outdoor use?
The RA models with large 200 mm wheels (ALBE-RA and ALBE GAS-RA) are designed for combined indoor and outdoor use – ideal for rehabilitation routes in the garden or the way to the mailbox.
Which walker is suitable for tight spaces?
The ALBE SMALL with only 60 cm frame width and approx. 13 kg own weight – particularly suitable for tight bathrooms, patient rooms or small apartments.
Are the walkers certified medical devices?
Yes, the entire ALBE range is CE-marked according to the EU Medical Device Regulation as Class I medical devices. They are specifically designed for daily use in clinics, nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities. Via your dealer account, you can see your conditions.
