Bariatric care requires supportive aids that truly deliver. Standard aids are typically rated for 130–150 kg – enough for most people, but not for bariatric care. Three factors separate a standard product from a true XXL aid:
Load capacity
Reinforced frames, thicker wall gauges, additional struts – engineered and tested for loads up to 300 kg.
Width
Wider seat surfaces, more interior space, often width-adjustable – so the user genuinely fits, rather than squeezing in.
Stability
Wider footprints and a lower centre of gravity – tip-resistant even under one-sided load when sitting down.
Note: always plan with a safety margin. The user's actual weight plus a 10–20 % reserve should stay below the stated maximum load.

All XXL aids are Class I medical devices, CE-marked and manufactured 100 % in Europe. Reinforced, powder-coated steel constructions with increased wall thickness are built specifically for sustained bariatric use. We provide a 5-year warranty on every product, typically deliver stock items within 2–4 working days from our German central warehouse, and keep supply flowing through a reliable spare-parts service.
From what body weight do you need XXL aids?
Rule of thumb: once the user's weight exceeds 130–150 kg, standard aids are no longer safe. Above that, XXL is essential – not for comfort, but for structural reasons.
What does bariatric mean?
"Bariatric" is the medical term for the care of obese patients – people with significantly increased body weight. Bariatric aids are engineered and tested specifically for their requirements.
Are the XXL models certified medical devices?
Yes. All XXL models are CE-marked Class I medical devices, manufactured in Europe. Conformity documentation is available to partners for procurement and tenders.
What is the difference between 200 and 300 kg capacity?
The 200 kg models cover the most common bariatric care. The 300 kg variants (BERTA, COMFORT 1-1296, COMFORT 1-1297) are built for particularly heavy users and use reinforced frames with greater wall thickness.
When does width adjustment matter?
When not only weight but also body circumference is above average. The COMFORT models with 55–85 cm seat width adapt to individual anatomy.
Do I need XXL for the walker too?
At higher body weight, yes. The ALBE EL XXL has a reinforced frame rated up to 250 kg, wider arm supports (46–62 cm) and is electrically height-adjustable – actively supporting standing up.
